If you can’t see a thin spot or obvious balding, the practical way to figure out if you’re losing hair—without going into a clinic for a scalp analysis—is to measure your shedding using the Zone Hair Pull Test.
1) Test three specific areas (zones):
Top of scalp: related to DHT or genetics
Sides of scalp: related to nutrition (vitamin D3, zinc, folate, ferritin, and B12 in the bloodstream)
Back of scalp: related to inflammatory hair loss tied to gut issues and other autoimmune/stressors
2) Pull and count what comes out.
Do the pull in each zone and count the hairs.
3) Interpret the result.
More than two hairs from a zone = positive for hair loss in that area.
Two hairs can be an anomaly.
4) Confirm with repeat checks.
Repeat the test every 3–4 days. If you’re consistently getting 3, 4, 5, or 10 hairs in a zone, that’s hair loss in that area.
